Faith Lutheran is Back!
It’s the second Tuesday of the month and that means our faithful and dependable group from Faith Lutheran once again make a difference in the daily lives of hundreds of people. As they have done before and as they will continue to do l, they showed up and were diligent in completing our shared mission, to feed the hungry. It all happens so fast on Saturday, in a moment the kitchen is full and people are all working together to accomplish one goal. Since summer is over and winter is on in full swing, and as I mention in our last blog post, it’s the end of BBQs. We welcome winter with open arms, freshly cooked corn bread, chili, and rice.
In a moments notice the boxes were opened , the eggs were cracked and just like that, the batter mixed. It takes a lot of cornbread to make 300 meals, so that means a lot of mixing and baking.
Just as quickly as we began cooking, we started plating. It was a whirlwind of a day, as it usually is when we have Faith Lutheran “In the House” as Peter says. And our great volunteers took to their stations and began the process we’ve all been through so many times. Each time seems like a new and enthralling experience, even though the task of plating is the same every time, the experience is always different. Conversations and time we share together are valuable in their own unique way, and I cherish each moment we get to spend with wonderful groups like Faith Lutheran.
From there our experienced crew took the reins, they needed no instruction and set out the complete the task they came here to do. Lunch service went smoothly and everyone was fed. We are grateful for the continued support of Faith Lutheran, look forward to catching up with them every month and of course are looking forward to their next visit. Thanks everyone so much, and thanks for putting up with me taking pictures. See ya next time!
