Faith Lutheran’s Final Visit of the Year!
In today’s world it’s hard to find a place where people are more engaged with one another than they are with their phones. St. John’s offers a place of refuge for those weary of the fast paced society, offering a chance for people to socialize while giving back to their community in a meaningful way. For many of us, St. John’s is the place that provides the positive outlet that we so desperately need. Faith Lutheran of New Providence has long ago discovered the special environment that St. John’s offers. Faith Lutheran comes down on the second Saturday of each month. Like clockwork they arrive and instantly set to work, it’s always nice to catch up with them after not seeing them for a month. Time moves quickly when you’re enjoying yourself and it seems we see each other more than we actually do. In reality, we only see each other at St. John’s twelve times a year, but the interactions we share are so meaningful that they leave a lasting impression. Interacting with charitable, kind and dedicated people really is a privilege and is a reminder of how much of a blessing St. John’s truly is. Without the hard work of our dedicated volunteers the work would go undone, people would be left without a decent meal and a place where they are respected and waited on. Groups such as Faith Lutheran are a reminder of how much good there is in our world. Thank you for giving so many people that gift everyday.
For the last time this decade Faith Lutheran served and prepared their meal. Since it’s the winter, it all starts with the cornbread and they have it down to a science. Moving quickly the senior members of the group give orders to the inexperienced. Before you can blink, the cornbread is in the oven. All the while other members of the group are busily moving about, preparing the desserts to be served, working at the women’s center or stocking shelves. Everywhere you go there is someone working diligent, dutifully and eagerly completely the task they have been assigned. With all the commotion time flies and before we know it, it’s time to serve lunch. The lunch service was smooth, as it tends to be with a group such as Faith Lutheran!
We are so grateful to Faith Lutheran for having such a strong youth iniative! In the formative years of a person’s life, experiences like these offer educational opportunities. It is critical that at an early age we get involved and start giving back to our community. The sooner we get involved, the bigger the difference we can make in our lifetime.
The lunch was served, the youth was involved and it was another successful day at St. John’s. Chili, rice, cornbread and green beans were served with homemade desert and freshly prepared soup. Because of groups like Faith Lutheran and the support of our wonderful volunteers and sponsors we are able to provide our guests with a balanced, nutritious meal that will provide our guests with the energy they need! We also try our best to make it taste good too! Thanks everyone! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
