Thanksgiving At St. John's
On November 27th 2024 at St. John's Parish in Newark, NJ, a warm spirit of community and gratitude filled the air as we hosted a magnificent Thanksgiving feast for the hungry and homeless. Our clientele ate at long tables outside in the sunshine. We served roasted turkey, savory stuffing, buttery mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and freshly baked pies which invited smiles from everyone who joined us!
Volunteers from all walks of life worked tirelessly to ensure the day was special. Some served meals with kindness, and dignity, while others worked behind the scenes, setting up the space, preparing food in the kitchen, and cleaning up with cheerful hearts.
We were joined by some very special guests – Kelly Ross and Dylan Ross the daughter and grandson of our beloved Barbara Maran who was the director of SJSK for many years. Having them here waslike a homecoming for all who knew and loved her.
Adding to the festive atmosphere was the live music provided by our dear friends The Bongiorno’s, who played soothing melodies and uplifting tunes from our church steps creating a backdrop of hope and celebration.
For many, the feast was more than a meal—it was a reminder that they are cared for, cherished, and never alone. St. John's Parish shone as a beacon of hope, proving that generosity and kindness can light up even the darkest of days.
