Eggs and Bacon for Breakfast!
Summer is all but officially over and school is starting up again, but exciting things are still happening at St. John’s! In the past weekend we were able to treat our guests to a wonderful fresh breakfast of eggs and bacon because of the generous donations from our wonderful community. There is no better way to start the day than freshly cooked eggs and bacon. It was fun to turn the soup kitchen into a diner for the day, and hopefully we can do it more often. Whenever we have eggs and bacon, you can be sure we’ll cook them up and serve them to our guests!
It takes a while to cook 30 dozen eggs and 50 pounds of bacon, but we were able to get it done just in time. As soon as we opened the kitchen we started cooking the eggs and bacon. At first we tried baking the bacon, but we soon realize that it wouldn’t be done in time. We had to transfer it to the stove top griddle, and we were serving the bacon as fast as we could cook it. It really made me appreciate how quickly diners get the food out. I want to thank everyone who helped with cooking the impromptu breakfast and all those who served! We had a lot of fun, and it’s something we plan on doing a lot more of!
We’re always trying to do more at the kitchen and if you have a great idea for the kitchen don’t hesitate to get involved! This breakfast only happened because our wonderful donors who supplied the eggs and bacon, and our volunteers who took the time out of their day to prepare and serve it. . If you have a great idea for a breakfast reach out to us! Together we can make that idea a reality. I look forward to cooking more breakfast in the morning, and I’m sure our guests do too.
