New Hope Baptist Church of West Orange!

We ring in the new year and a new decade with New Hope Baptist Church of West Orange this pst Saturday. We have previously posted about their beefaroni meal and their incredibly popular sloppy joes, but because it’s a new year and a new decade they decided it would be interesting to try something different. So, for their most recent meal they decided to prepare chili, and it was delicious!

As with all things it’s important to start at the beginning, and it all started when our friends came in and started cooking the beef. Once it was cooked, it was time to drain the excess oil, there’s no sense in making chili if you’re not going to do it right. A little bit of seasoning, some veggies and a dash of cheese left us on the right track. They were making some good chili!

While the beef was being cooked there were other preparations we had to make. That meant to balance out all the beef and heaviness of the chili we would need some sort of refreshing food. Salad and coleslaw seemed to fit the bill perfectly, what’s better to cut the richness of chili than a salad. Fresh greens also have the added benefit of being healthy!

Fresh cucumbers and grape tomatoes make for a nice salad. Our wonderful volunteers set right to work and began chopping as soon as they came in. Even though I was pestering them for pictures, they still were still smiling.

When the soup was finished and everything was prepared the only thing we had left to do was plate and serve! With everything in position we started packing the meals. I think they came out looking pretty tasty, and based on the response from our guests, I think they agreed too!

Thanks to everyone who came and helped out, we couldn’t do it without you. Without your support we wouldn’t be able to serve such a wonderful meal. When our community comes together to fight hunger in our city, we can do great things!!
