St. Patrick's Day Celebration!
St. Patrick’s day is a very important day for St. John’s. We always try to celebrate with corn beef and cabbage. This year we are proud to say that we have continued our tradition of serving freshly cooked corn beef. With all the chaos the pandemic has brought to the world, we are trying to keep a sense of normalcy at St. John’s. Since the outbreak, we have made it our goal to feed the guests of St. John’s and serve great meals. This meal was an amazing display of dedication of our St. John’s family. It’s easy to get caught up in the hysteria of the current pandemic, but meals still need to be served and people still need to eat. It is because of the dedication of our volunteers and community that this meal was made possible. Our community understands the magnitude of the work done at the kitchen. And, by no means is this an easy meal to prepare, but because everyone was on the same page it was able to become a reality.
As we continue to monitor the outbreak, we again ask everyone to stay home if you are at risk. Because of the outbreak, we want to keep everyone safe. If you or a loved one is vulnerable we ask that you stay home and keep your family safe. St. John’s has made a number of preparations to help alleviate the amount of people required to serve breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately, because of this the men’s dining hall and the women and children’s center are closed for the foreseeable future. We hope that with the warmer weather on the horizon that this will not a big inconvenience for our guests. We want to make our number one priority getting meals to those that are most vulnerable, and as many organizations in the NYC metro area shut down, we expect a larger influx of guests. We will keep everyone up to date as the outbreak progresses, and ask again that our volunteers consider their health and safety a priority. Thank you everyone again for everything you do for St. John’s and our guests, and we wish everyone good health during these trying times.
